To Have a Blog or Not To Have a Blog?

Thank you for visiting my neglected blog! Which leads me to the question of whether I should keep this blog or discontinue it? Blogging takes time. An effective blog has to be about more than buy my book me, me, me. But lately it feels like that’s the only thing I’ve been posting about. (And, um, to prove my point, while you’re here, please check out the newly uploaded excerpts for my next two books on my Coming Soon page.) *Hangs head in shame over blatant self promotion*

Where were we? Oh, right, effective blogging. To be an effective blogger you need to blog regularly. Yet when I get busy with my writing and/or stressed in my personal life, my blog is the first thing I let slide. (As you can tell!) (I am much more active on my Facebook page where I post daily.)

The experts say it’s better to not have a blog than to have a neglected blog. I’ve considered weekly pictures of sexy men, but honestly, I’m very nervous about the whole copyright infringement epidemic. I’ve also considered doing weekly book reviews, except I couldn’t bring myself to ever write a bad review so I’d only review books I liked. And would people care about a book review blog that only gave out positive reviews? As a way of boosting interaction, on my Home Page I’ve invited visitors to stop by to introduce themselves on my blog. Few do.

So what do you think? Do you blog on a regular basis? What are you looking for when you visit a blog? What are your favorite blogs and why? (Personally, I love Jill Shalvis’s blog. I wish I was as funny and creative and accident prone – well, maybe not the last one.) But I also subscribe to Bob Mayer’s Blog   and The Writer’s Guide to E-Publishing  and a few other craft/industry oriented blogs. Why do you visit an author’s blog?
